How to correctly understand outdoor inkjet ink?
Every day, inkjet companies use outdoor inkjet inks and are very familiar with outdoor inkjet inks. It should be said that they have a certain understanding of ink. However, we found in actual communication that many inkjet companies do not know much about ink, and even have many misunderstandings. They generally believe that: 1. The ink production technology is already very advanced, the ink is very stable, there is absolutely no problem in use, and there will never be phenomena such as plugging and color difference. 2. The machine is equipped with a micron-level filter. Large particles and impurities in the ink cannot enter the nozzle, so there will be no problem.
Is this really the case?
In fact, this is a great misunderstanding of outdoor inkjet ink!
Below, we will make some objective analysis from the raw materials, formula, production process, performance characteristics of outdoor ink.
We know that in order to meet the requirements of good outdoor weather resistance, water resistance, light resistance, acid and alkali resistance, etc., outdoor inks can only use pigment inks (usually called solvent inks, oil inks or weak solvent inks). This ink is made by mixing pigment particles, solvents, dispersants, stabilizers, anti-UV agents and other raw materials. Because this kind of mixing is physical and not chemical, no matter how unique the formulation is and how advanced the production process is, this physical mixing cannot be kept in a stable state for a long time. After a certain period of time, this mixing will be Separation occurs, leading to ink layering and precipitation. And as soon as the ink is produced, this delamination and sedimentation phenomenon gradually begins to occur, but it is not serious enough to be used. The difference between inks of different manufacturers is only the length of storage time. Good quality ink can be used for 2 to 5 months, while poor quality ink can only be placed for about 1 month.
Some people say that the pigment particles in the ink are ground to about 100-200 nanometers (that is, 0.1-0.2 microns) and there will be no problem. In fact, this is a big misunderstanding! Although the pigment particles are so finely ground, it seems that there will be no problems, but it is not! We know that because of the adsorption of electric charges, even the smallest particles will produce polymerization once they meet, that is, the phenomenon of clumping, and this clumping is difficult to separate. Therefore, although the pigment particles used are 100-200 nm, the particle size of the produced ink is usually 1000-5000 nm instead of 100-200 nm! That is to say, after the polymerization, the size of the pigment particles in the ink is not uniform, but the size is different, and the size difference is about 50 times. As a result, when the pigment particles in the ink clump to a certain extent, they will begin to settle down, resulting in delamination and precipitation.
Others say that the machine is equipped with a filter, and pigments and impurities with large particles cannot pass, so the precipitation of ink will not cause damage to the nozzle. In fact, this is a kind of misconception of "take it for granted" caused by not understanding the filter and the shape of the ink deposits, which is easy to give people an illusion. In fact, the filter only has a certain effect on filtering hard impurities, but it is not absolutely useful, because under pressure, due to the effect of squeezing and deformation, hard impurities larger than the filter pores can also be smooth Pass the filter! And particularly important: the filter has little effect on the agglomerated pigment particles that are very large in the ink! Because the agglomerated pigment particles are soft particles, under a certain pressure, the agglomerated particles that are several times larger than the filter pores can also line up through the filter smoothly! The reason is very simple: although the pigment particles that are clumped are large, they are clumped together due to the adsorption of electric charge, and the shape can be changed arbitrarily under the action of a small external force, so as long as the fineness of the pigment particles themselves is less than the filtration The filter hole of the filter, the clumped particles can change the shape and smoothly pass through the filter! In fact, the filter accuracy of the inkjet printer is generally about 5000 to 10000 nanometers, so it will not have any filtering effect on the pigment particles. In fact, pigment particles cannot be filtered out, otherwise, the concentration of ink will be a problem! Therefore, the agglomerated pigment particles are unobstructed in the filter. These agglomerated particles of different sizes can easily form ink mud in the ink tube, which can cause poor ink supply; produce ink dirt on the nozzle and cause the nozzle to block.
Since outdoor inks must be pigment-based inks, and pigment-based inks have the above-mentioned characteristics objectively, phenomena such as clumping of ink pigment particles, ink stratification, and particle precipitation will inevitably occur, which will inevitably bring ink concentrations of various colors. Problems such as unevenness, chromatic aberration in the sprayed image, and easy plugging of the printer. These problems are neither a problem of ink manufacturers, nor a quality problem of machines, nor a problem of filter manufacturers, but caused by the characteristics of outdoor ink.
